Lake Weston has over 8,000 book titles, which include easy, fiction, non-fiction, biographies, and graphic novels.  Most books are labeled for Accelerated Reader quizzes.  Classes visit the Media Center once every two weeks.

Media Center Policies:

  • Kindergarten students check out one book and keep the book in their classroom.
  • 1st through 5th grade students check out two books.  It is up to the teacher's discretion if library books go home.
  • Students can have only two books out a time.  Overdue, lost, or damaged books are included in this total.
  • Students check out one fiction book and one non-fiction book.
  • There are no fees for overdue books, only lost and damaged books.
  • Students check out books within their pre-determined AR range.

Computer Lab
The students use these computers in the following ways:

  • iReady and FSA testing
  • Accelerated Reader quizzes
  • Researching classroom related topics
  • Accessing academic programs in Launch

Scholastic Book Fairs
Lake Weston hosts two Book Fairs; one in September and one in May.  All students visit the Book Fair with their classes.  This serves as the major fundraiser for the school library.  Profits are used to buy new books for the library and Makerspace materials.

Makerspace
Students participate in S.T.E.A.M (science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math) activities when they visit the Makerspace.  These activities include holiday crafts, puzzles and problem solving activities, Snap Circuits, robotics, engineering design challenges, and more.

E-Books
Hundreds of e-books for all levels of readers are available through Destiny Discover, which students can access in the Library Research Tools folder in Launch.
